Hello, I’m Maryam.

During my own mental health journey and recovery from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), my breath—my nafas—grounded me through the practice of mindfulness. It helped me recognize the importance of my life and that it was worth living, and brought my attention to and appreciation for what and who matters most.

My nafas supported me in connecting to the here and now, to my senses, my surroundings, and to what is real, savoring the moments I would otherwise take for granted. It ultimately allowed me to center my life, my real experiences, rather than the noise of OCD.

Every breath supports our life and keeps us alive,

And every exhale produces contentment and relaxation of our being.

Therefore, there are two blessings in every breath,

and gratitude is obligatory for every blessing.
